Prof. Saeed Akhtar

Chairman, Board of Governors

Message from the Chairman’s Desk

On behalf of the Board of Governors of PKLI&RC and on a personal note, it gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the First International Scientific Symposium of PKLI&RC. This is a historic moment filled with joy and immense pride for me and for all my colleagues at PKLI&RC.

It was the dream of creating a world-class academic center that brought me back to Pakistan twenty-five years ago from the United States, where I enjoyed a very fulfilling academic career. By the mercy of God Almighty, and through the patience, perseverance, and hard work of my team, as well as the unwavering support of the Government of Punjab, especially the former Chief Minister (now the Prime Minister) and the current Chief Minister, along with their cabinet and administrative leadership, this dream has been realized in a record eight years. This includes two COVID years. PKLI&RC has evolved into a true center of excellence in clinical care, both preventive and therapeutic.

PKLI&RC is the leading center in the region for kidney and liver transplants, urological oncology, robotic and reconstructive surgeries, HPB surgery, interventional radiology, gastroenterology and nephrology. These services are supported by exceptional teams in anesthesia, critical care, radiology, pathology and administration. The dream of establishing a world-class academic center cannot be fulfilled without strong teaching and research programs.

PKLI&RC has established residency and fellowship programs across all its specialties. A School of Nursing and Paramedics has been established and the creation of PKLI University is in progress. A robust research program, both clinical and translational, is being developed in collaboration with national and international universities. As the highest quality of care was the foundational principle of PKLI&RC, all policies and procedures have been aligned with Joint Commission International (USA) standards since its inception. PKLI&RC takes pride in being the first JCI-accredited public hospital not only in Pakistan but in the entire Southeast Asian region, achieved in just seven years. The heart of my dream remains that no patient should ever be turned away due to financial limitations, race, religion, color or creed.

The wealth of knowledge and experience that distinguished scholars and speakers bring to this symposium from Pakistan and around the world is truly remarkable. I am deeply grateful to all of you for your time and contribution, especially to our international faculty. I urge the young generation to make the most of this opportunity through pre-conference workshops, lectures, and one-on-one interactions with this esteemed national and international faculty. These two days of engagement should be translated into long-term relationships for scientific learning, hands-on training, research collaboration and exchange-visitor programs.

Pakistan and the city of Lahore have a rich cultural and historical heritage. I encourage our visiting international faculty to take some time to explore Pakistan. I hope this will become one of the most memorable trips of your life.

I look forward to welcoming all of you to Lahore at PKLI&RC soon.

Warm regards,

Prof. Saeed Akhtar

Prof. Faisal Saud Dar

Dean, Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute & Research Center (PKLI&RC)

It is my privilege to welcome you to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute & Research Center (PKLI&RC). When I first took on this role, my vision was clear: strengthen our foundations and let PKLI&RC rise as a true center of excellence for patients battling complex liver, kidney and multi system diseases. Today, I am proud to see that vision not just taking shape but taking flight.

Our teams continue to work at the cutting edge of modern medicine. From advanced robotic and laparoscopic surgeries to specialised male and female fertility and sexual health services, our care spans a wide spectrum. Our endoscopy services ERCP with cholangioscopy, EUS, enteroscopy and complex polypectomy allow us to diagnose and treat with precision.

In interventional oncology and hepatobiliary care, we now perform TACE, Y 90, targeted ablations, image guided tumor treatments, TIPS, DIPS, portal vein embolisation and complex vascular procedures. And our paediatric services including transformative liver, kidney and bone marrow transplantation continue to give children a new lease on life. These accomplishments are not merely milestones; they are proof that dedication, innovation and courage can move mountains.

The PKLI&RC International Symposium 2026 is another leap forward. By bringing together global leaders in transplantation and allied specialties, we aim to spark new ideas, build meaningful collaborations and further elevate Pakistan’s role in the global medical community.

To the young surgeons and physicians joining us: make the most of this opportunity. Ask questions, challenge ideas and learn fearlessly. As the saying goes, “Fortune favours the bold” and in medicine, it certainly favours the curious.

Let us continue this journey together, united by purpose and passion, determined to make every patient’s life better than we found it.

I look forward to welcoming you personally at this landmark event.

With sincere commitment,

Prof. Faisal Saud Dar SI, DSc, FCPS, FRCS, FEBS

Co-Chair Scientific Committee

Dear Colleagues and Distinguished Guests,

It is with great honor and a deep sense of commitment that I welcome you to the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Center (PKLI&RC) International Symposium 2026. We have envisioned this gathering not merely as a conventional academic event, but as a defining juncture for the advancement of surgical excellence within our nation. My own experience across global medical institutions has cemented a clear vision: the future of urological care is rooted in unparalleled precision, minimally invasive techniques and sophisticated technological integration. It is this very future we are actively building at PKLI through our pioneering work in robotic-assisted surgery for complex urological conditions.

In this era of rapid progress, where artificial intelligence, data science, and robotics are reshaping our field, we are presented with a dual imperative: to harness these powerful tools while steadfastly upholding the core values of surgical artistry, lifelong education and principled innovation. Thus, this symposium stands as a testament to a broader mission. It is a confluence of brilliant minds, a tribute to our collective heritage, and a renewal of our dedication to those who laid the foundation and to the emerging surgeons we will empower to lead with both expertise and empathy. Our program is meticulously crafted to transcend theoretical discussion, fostering a vibrant exchange between world-renowned experts and our national talent, all centered on a single, actionable goal: translating global breakthroughs into sustainable, superior patient care for Pakistan.

I must express my sincere appreciation to the Scientific and Organizing Committees, whose dedicated efforts have been instrumental in assembling this world-class forum.
